Rain Expected In Austin As Storm Forms Over Gulf Of Mexico

Powerful storm hovering over southern portion of the Gulf is expected to bring precipitation to much of the city this week.

AUSTIN, TX — A storm forming over the Gulf of Mexico is expected to bring rain to the Austin area by the middle of the week.

The imminent rain will be fueled by a storm system in the southern part of the gulf that could grow into a hurricane, forecasters said. As a result of that formation, the Austin region is expected to receive rain by Tuesday.

The National Weather Servicesaid a slight chance of rain is expected on Tuesday, with 20 percent of the area expected to see precipitation during the day. The chance of rain grows to 50 percent by Tuesday night.

By Wednesday, thunderstorms are very likely as a 70 percent chance if being forecast throughout the day. The chance of rain diminishes by Thursday, with a 50 percent chance early in the day lessening to a 20 percent chance by nightfall.

The rain should end by the weekend. Friday is expected to be sunny, with a high of 96 degrees, according to the NWS.
