Here are the top stories today in Austin:
1) Keep calm – the rain has arrived! Central Texas' 2-month dry streak finally comes to an end — yahoo! CBS reports that the "positive" weather change begins as a "cold" front moves in from the north with storms, knocking us down into the 70s and the highs in the 90s for the rest of the forecast. The front is expected to linger on Friday with another 30-40 percent chance for afternoon showers and thunderstorms. CBS Austin has the full forecast here.
2) New to town and participating in your first election this fall? Austin Chronicle has put together a fantastic voting guide with details on how and when to register, which elections you're eligible to participate in, where to vote — and more. Check it out here.
3) Friendly reminder: do not drink and drive. Starting Friday, Aug. 19, the Austin Police department will be cracking down on all laws that aim to lessen crashes, injuries, and fatalities caused by drivers under the influence. Planning to grab drinks with friends? Be sure to download rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft or check out the Capital Metro schedule to ensure you get home safely. Learn more here at Spectrum News.
4) Job alert: HEB hosting a one-day career fair at all of its Texas stores. Looking for your next gig, or a way to make some extra cash? HEB is hosting an all-day hiring event on Tuesday, Aug. 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help fill full- and part-time positions. On-site interviews will be held at all of Texas locations. FOX 7 Austin has more details on the event here.
