Technology Helps Bridge Gap Of Distance At School District

Kubi carts allow students who are away due to extenuating circumstances to keep up with studies remotely.

ROUND ROCK, TX -- In an age of modernity, instant data and an informational glut, many among us often think we’ve lost as much as we’ve gained in these technological times of media onslaught. But technology -- in the form of Kubi carts -- is most assuredly a gain.

A report by KXAN-TV profiled the technology, which allows students to keep up on their schoolwork even while they’re away. Through the use of their laptop or iPad, students can access an educator at various Kubi carts throughout the district.

Zyan Ogiste-Hayes used the technology to keep up on her school work even though she was some 1,500 miles away in Philadelphia undergoing leukemia treatment. Even though she’s been away from class for about two months, she’s not left behind in her studies as a result of the technology.

The student told KXAN she’s grateful for the technological wizardry that allows her so stay engaged in her studies: “If I didn’t, then I’d be absent and I wouldn’t know what they were doing and I’d be sad because I would miss my class,” she said.

She said knowing she’s not behind in class eases that stress while she focuses on getting better.
