AUSTIN, TX — Tesla has reportedly chosen Austin for its next Gigafactory, according to a report on Friday.

Electrek cited a source familiar with the matter in its report, adding the deal is "going to happen quickly," according to the report. The Tesla Gigafactory, also known as a Terafactory, would be located within the city or near its vicinity, according to the report.

Those familiar with the project said company chief Elon Musk has directed the Gigafactory Nevada engineering team to launch the process for the Austin-area factory, according to the report. The plant would manufacture the Tesla Cybertruck electric vehicle and the company's Model Y, according to the report.
