Texas-Based Frito-Lay Recalls Jalapeño Flavored Chips Over Salmonella Fears
Voluntary move comes after suppler recalls jalapeño powder seasoning blend which could contain Salmonella, in abundance of caution.

PLANO, TX — Frito-Lay officials announced the voluntary recall of select Jalapeño Flavored Lay’s Kettle Cooked potato chips and Jalapeño Flavored Miss Vickie’s Kettle Cooked potato chips due to the potential presence of Salmonella in the seasoning, officials said.
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
The voluntary recall by the snacks producer based in Plano, Texas, is the direct result of a supplier’s recent recall of a seasoning blend which includes jalapeño powder that could contain Salmonella, officials said. Although no Salmonella was found in the seasoning supplied to Frito-Lay, the company has decided to recall these products out of an abundance of caution, officials with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said.
