Texas Comes In As Third Most Hate-Filled State In New Analysis
Website scoured derogatory tweets for blacks, gays, Hispanics, lesbians, transgender, women and overweight, and Texas is well represented.

AUSTIN, TX -- Texas is the third most hate-filled state in the country as it relates to prejudice against black and Hispanic/Latino people and other minorities, at least according to a new algorithm-aided search of Internet word searches by a website.
Abodo has compiled a study that analyzes tweets in trying to discern areas of the country where prejudice is most prevalent. They studied pejorative terms not only for blacks and Hispanics, but also women, gays and lesbians, transgender people, the disabled and even the overweight.
As a baseline, the site geolocated 154 keywords among 12 million tweets in scouring for slurs and other prejudiced language.

In the rough calculus, Texas didn’t come out looking too good.
In terms of overall derogatory language by state, Texas came in third -- just behind Louisiana and Nevada. That was based on its 925 derogatory tweets out of 100,000.

Rounding out the Top 10 were: Maryland; Delaware; Ohio; California; Michigan; Georgia; and Ohio.
The list breaks down specific targets by city, and Texas again made the list. Anti-black tweets registered strongly in Arlington and Garland, garnering the 5th and 9th spots, respectively.
Arlington had 56 anti-black tweets per 100,000, compared to 51 for Garland against the same measure.
Anti-Hispanic tweets were also robust in three Texas cities. Arlington and Garland again make that dubious list, ranked 6th and 7th. Ironically, San Antonio -- one of the most Hispanic Texas cities with 63.2 percent of the population identifying themselves under that ethnic category in census counts -- makes the list at No. 10.
Houston doesn’t fare well in terms of embracing women (at least as judged by tweets), earning the 4th position in that category. According to the Adobe data, 2,353 out of 100,000 tweets betrayed an anti-woman slant.
Arlington and Corpus Christi made the list of most anti-gay cities based on tweets, earning the 2nd and 10th spots in that category. The former had 161 anti-gay tweets while the latter had 122, according to the data.
However, in crunching the numbers for anti-transgender tweets, Texas is nowhere to be found in the Top 10. Las Vegas tops that category, with Atlanta squeaking into the Top Five. Florida is well represented, with Orlando, Tampa and Miami earning slots 2-4.
But there’s hope. If you live -- or plan to move to as a result of the tweet analysis-- in the following states, you’ll reside in the ten least-derogatory states: Wyoming; Montana; Vermont; South Dakota; Idaho; Arkansas; Minnesota; Maine; North Dakota; and Wisconsin.
For Texas, the tweet tabulation ain’t pretty. But if you’re still intent on seeing exactly which keywords were searched for to achieve list placement, click here.
