Texas Zoo Offers Roaches, Rats Named After Exes As Animal Feed

Those who have broken up on Valentine's Day can buy a bug or rat, name it after an ex and offer it up as an animal snack for a price.

SAN ANTONIO, TX — It's been said that revenge is a dish best served cold. A zoo in Texas is giving new meaning to the saying, offering visitors angry at their exes a chance to name a cockroach before feeding it to reptiles and birds at the animal enclosure.

The San Antonio Zoo has launched its “Cry Me A Cockroach” event for Valentine’s Day in which participants can express their feelings in unique fashion for $5 a roach. The truly emotional can go for the gusto — and step up to mammal level — by buying a rat for $25 named after an ex-love and destined as reptilian snack.

"If your ex was a snake, you can even name a rat after them, and we will feed it to a reptile for $25!" zoo officials wrote on social media in promoting their higher-tier option.

Not to worry if you're having trouble picturing this Valentine's Day feast, as the zoo will stream the event in real time on Facebook Live. Check the zoo's Facebook page for updates here.

Participants must submit a name by 5 p.m. Thursday. Zoo officials noted that the names will be submitted anonymously and only first names will be used, to protect the heart-breakers. Those participating will be given a certificate that memorializes their vengeful move for display on their social media platforms.
