Thanksgiving Day 2018 Hours For Austin-Area Grocery Stores

AUSTIN, TEXAS — We take them for granted during the holiday season, but grocery store employees are people — just like us, with a need to be with family during special holidays surrounded by the warmth of home. As a result, some area retailers will alter their hours to allow employees such familial gatherings with loved ones — including HEB, the grocer powerhouse that many believe never closes to its loyal customers.

Every year, like clockwork, residents make a mad dash to the store for that missing ingredient for the holiday meal, only to find the store has closed given abbreviated holiday hours of operation. It's best, then, to know ahead of time what these holiday hours of operation are so you don't waste a trip to the store or can select alternates remaining open.

And so, here is a list of holiday hours for the region's grocery stores.

ALDI

An ALDI store opened in Pflugerville last November, as Patch reported at the time. According to the company website, all ALDI stores are closed on Thanksgiving Day, New Year's Day, Easter Sunday and Christmas Day. All ALDI stores will be open limited hours on Memorial Day,Independence Day, Labor Day, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. COSTCO

All stores will be closed on Thanksgiving.

HEB

Holiday hours for H‑E‑B stores and H‑E‑B Curbside & Home Delivery

• Day Before Thanksgiving 11/21: Stores: Open regular hours. Curbside: 7:30 a.m. – 7 p.m., last Home Delivery: 7 p.m. – 8 p.m.
• Thanksgiving Day 11/22: Stores: Open 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pharmacy: Closed. Curbside: Closed. Home Delivery: Closed.
• Black Friday 11/23. Stores: Open regular hours. Curbside: Open at 9 a.m. Home Delivery: Open at 9 a.m.
• Christmas Eve 12/24: Stores: Open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Curbside: Open 7:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Last Home Delivery: 7 p.m. – 8 p.m.

All stores are closed on Thanksgiving.

SPROUTS Farmers Market

On Thanksgiving Day, Sprouts stores will open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. To find your Sprouts store, click here.

WALMART

According to the retailer's website, the only major holiday Walmart closes is Christmas. On Christmas Eve, Walmart closes at 8 p.m., local time. Additional holidays where Walmart limits holiday hours include: Thanksgiving, New Years Day and Easter.

WHEATSVILLE

Both Austin locations of this food cooperative will operate on limited hours on Thanksgiving Day, from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The day before Thanksgiving, stores will operate during normal hours from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., but the day after Thanksgiving hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Austin stores are located at 3101 Guadalupe St. and 4001 S. Lamar Blvd.
