Thousands In Central Texas Left Without Power After Storms
A brief, but strong, series of storms descended on the region early Monday, leaving tens of thousands without electricity.

AUSTIN, TX — Thousands of residents throughout the area were without electricity after a series of brief, but strong, thunderstorms rolled through Central Texas early Monday.
Austin Energy officials said more than 110 power outages across the city, affecting as many as 5,200 customers, were still in place as of 10 am. Utility officials said they were working to restore service in a pair of large outages — along Johnny Morris Road where 550 residents were left without power and near East Rundberg Lane and Dessau Road where another 520 customers were without electricity. The utility is expected to restore service later in the day to both areas.
KXAN reported that up to 9,000 customers in the dawn hours were left without power in the storm's aftermath. Another utility servicing customers in northern Travis and eastern Williamson counties, reported that up to 12,000 of its clients were left without power. The affected, triangular-shaped region encompassing Pflugerville, Hutto and Wells Branch were still without power as late as 10 a.m., according to reports. Also without power were some 1,100 customers in Round Rock and eastern Williamson County.

An outage map suggests power would be turned back on for most affected customers in Williamson County. But in Plfugerville and Wells Branch, the estimated time for restoring services is being categorized as "currently unknown."
Utility officials alerted residents to downed power lines as a result of the storms, directing its customers to contact information for reporting services. Parents should take special heed to such warnings given children's summer vacations when they're spending more time at home and could come across a downed power line.
