Tomlinson's Feed Donating 60K Pounds Of Food To Austin Shelters

AUSTIN, TEXAS — Tomlinson’s Feed officials have scheduled their second Pound4Pound Pick-Up Party of 2018 this week when they will be distributing more than 60,000 pounds of food — two full semi-truck loads' worth — to 35-plus Austin-area animal rescues.

Representatives from rescues scheduled to be in attendance include Central Texas SPCA, Wilco Regional Animal Shelter, Austin Dog Rescue, and others. The Pound4Pound Pick Up Party benefits the rescue organizations' homeless animals yearning for forever homes.

The event is scheduled Thursday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tomlinson's Warehouse, 845 Interchange Blvd. Ste 105.

Event organizers noted the amount of pet food to be donated represents a fraction of the amount that Tomlinson’s and their partners will donate this year. Tomlinson's officials added that the donated food makes a strong impact on local rescues: it helps them meet the nutritional needs of their pets and frees up funds for medical cases that would otherwise be spent on food.

In 2017 alone, Tomlinson’sdonated more than $40,000 in cash to local rescues and Harvey-impacted organizations, officials said.

“The partnership between Tomlinson’s and animal organizations such as the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter is invaluable," Misty Valenta, the shelter's community programs coordinator, said. "The Pound4Pound donations aids our foster families so they can care for more animals in need with less financial burden. Our foster program is lifesaving - and Tomlinson’s helps us keep that program vibrant.”
