The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Austin.

Morning, neighbors! Gabriela Couvillion here with a fresh issue of the Austin Daily.

First, today's weather:

Pleasant with plenty of sun. High: 76 Low: 46.

Here are the top stories in Austin today:

  1. On Monday, March 21, "there were five tornadoes that touched down in Central Texas and three have been evaluated by the National Weather Service." To assist homeowners who were "impacted by Monday's tornado outbreak," The Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN) set up the Central Texas Tornadoes Relief Fund. The fund is used to "support emergency needs as well as the long-term rebuilding efforts in the aftermath." To donate to the Central Texas Tornadoes Relief Fund, please click here, and if you were impacted by the storms and need assistance, please call the ADRN Disaster Survivor Hotline at 512-806-0800. 2. FC Austin Elite, a Central Texas women's soccer club, serves "to develop players for international competition and provide a home for former professional players." Recently they received a $5,000 donation from Austin FC and Michelob Ultra. Danny Woodfill, general manager for FC Austin Elite, said, "We're honored to be recognized by Austin FC and Michelob Ultra for our work to grow the women's game and provide a platform for women to play soccer at a high level of competition in Austin." He added, "This donation will go a long way toward helping us have a successful 2022 season." FC Austin Elite, which is in its eighth season of operation, will be "competing in the United Women's Soccer's Southwest Conference this year" during the 2022 season, which starts in April. 3. One of the latest food crazes in town seems to be the Japanese hand roll, and a food truck in Austin called Texas Sushiko has a unique way of creating it. Austin Chef Michael Carranza, "originally from the small South Texas town of Sinton, puts "his own perspective on the dish, as he delves both into the Mexican-American flavors of his childhood, as well as the expertise of his fine dining background." Some of his specialties include "king crab dotted with shaved black truffles" and "oak-grilled salmon skin that's marinated in fajita spices." Carranza said, "This is taking sushi back to its street food roots." The food truck is located in The Yard outside Texas Sake Company, at 5501 N. Lamar Blvd., Ste. A115.
