- During Women's History Month, Erika Thompson, local beekeeper and founder of Texas Beeworks, was interviewed by KVUE. During the interview, she said, "My whole life, I've just really loved bugs. So, my fascination led me to take a beekeeping class." She added, "I started my own business, Texas Beeworks, while working a full-time job. A few years ago, I quit my full-time office job and became a full-time professional beekeeper." She now owns a farm "where the beehives are stacking up as fast as her followers on social media!" - On Thursday, March 31, "Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller announced... that $95 million in grants are headed to Texas food banks through the Food Bank Capacity Building Grant program." That program was originally "created using funds from the Coronavirus State Fiscal Recovery Fund established under the American Rescue Plan Act." Celia Cole, CEO of Feeding Texas, said, "We are especially grateful to our state leaders for investing in the future of Texas hunger-relief, as well as to Congress and the White House for making this recovery funding available." She added, "With this effort we can get more help to those Texans who are truly in need or underserved, which should always be the goal of any state or federal assistance program."
