UT-Austin Details Upcoming Virtual Commencement Ceremony
This week's ceremony will be unlike others before it as the school continues to practice physical distancing as a pandemic safeguard.

AUSTIN, TX — The University of Texas at Austin has scheduled a commencement ceremony for the Class of 2o20 on Saturday that is unlike any before it, inviting friends of family of graduates to gather online amid the continued threat of the coronavirus.
The university's 137th Spring Commencement ceremony is scheduled Saturday, May 23, with a pre-show at 8:30 pm. followed by a live ceremony at 9 p.m. The event that traditionally transforms the campus into a staging area — with thousands of students and their families in full force as speakers laud academic accomplishments from a makeshift stage — will be decidedly low-key this year, if not equally momentous for grads.
Adherence to physical distancing provisions continue among those helping to blunt the spread of an illness for which there is no vaccine. Despite the state's brisk pace of economy reopening, many opt to continue the tactics of distancing and the wearing of facial coverings — no longer mandated by gubernatorial degree — to help mitigate illness spread.
