Victims Of South Austin Apartment Complex Fire Identified

Remains of Kaitlyn Denson, 26, and Joseph Tarin, 30, were found among debris of fire at Woods Apartments off Barton Skyway early Monday.

AUSTIN, TX — Austin fire officials this week identified the two people who died in an early morning apartment complex fire on Monday.

The remains of Kaitlyn Denson, 26, and Joseph Tarin, 30, were found in the aftermath of the fire at the Woods Apartments located off Barton Skyway amid the Barton Creek Greenbelt. Fire officials formally identified the two victims, and their names and photos have been shared widely in local media reports.

Nine other residents were displaced as a result of the blaze, with the American Red Cross assisting them in securing alternate lodging. The fire occurred just before 4:30 a.m. on Monday along the 2900 block of Barton Skyway.

Fire officials are still trying to determine what may have caused the deadly fire that started on the balcony, a process that could take between six to eight weeks. Officials placed the monetary damage at $500,000 to the structure and another $250,000 for the contents.
