Water Main Ruptures In Downtown Austin Amid Freezing Temps
Rupture at 201 E. 5th Street couldn't have happened at worse time, with digits below freezing adding to already treacherous road conditions.

AUSTIN, TX — With temperatures just below freezing, this is the last thing anyone needs: A water main break on Tuesday evening prompted the closure of a main downtown artery.
Austin Water utility workers descended to 201 E. 5th St. to fix the rupture at about 7 p.m., closing Brazos and San Jacinto streets along the way. Sidewalks along the key downtown artery reportedly were blocked off with yellow caution tape to dissuade pedestrians from entering.
The pipe break is near the Brazos Lofts. Motorists were being urged to use 7th or Cesar Chavez streets in accessing Interstate 35 and other points.
