Here are the top stories in Austin today:
- On Friday, March 4, The University of Texas at Austin launched its "What Starts Here" campaign, which is "the largest fundraising campaign ever launched by a Texas university."
Through this campaign, UT hopes to raise $6 billion by 2025 to support student success; recruit and retain faculty and graduate students; improve health care for everyone in the state; and contribute to energy innovation and entrepreneurship in Texas. "The campaign also includes raising $1 billion to fund scholarships and student support programs." UT President Jay Hartzell said, "We will accomplish this by continuing to attract incredible people, by taking advantage of our unique place in Austin and Texas, and by focusing on transformative pursuits. By fueling our ambitious plans, the 'What Starts Here' campaign will truly change the world." For the full report, visit the Austin American-Statesman website and see: (KVUE.com) - Myriam Powell, owner of Myriam Powell Designs, "has been making art from a young age." She creates her unique artwork by "needle felting, the process of transforming wool into 3D objects by constantly stabbing the needle into the wool." She combines her art with personal interests like Halloween, steampunk and gothic art, so some of her pieces are dark, while others are whimsical. According to her, starting a business didn't come easy, but once she made contacts, she's doing better than ever. She said, "If you are persistent and if you believe in something... I started working hard, and it paid off." She concluded by saying, "So, I think you can do whatever you want to do." For more on the artist and her art visit: (KVUE.com)
