It's the second such incident in as many days in Austin in the same location. On Saturday, a man in his 50s also fell victim to the scorching heat while hiking along the Barton Creek green belt along the 1700 Camp Craft Rd. shortly after 1 p.m. The wilderness in which the man hiked complicated medics' efforts to extricate him, ultimately doing so with the aid of a wheeled contraption outfitted with a stretcher.
The man was rushed to Seton Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. The two latest incidents bring to 20 the number of cases of heat-related emergencies to which medics have had to respond in the past week, Austin-Travis County EMS medics previously said.
