Eight People Hurt In East Austin Collision, Including Two Children

No word on what may caused the crash to occur, but none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.

EAST AUSTIN, TX -- Eight people required medical treatment after a car wreck that has prompted the street's closure, EMS officials said.

The incident occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. at the 7600 block of Cameron Road, according to Austin-Travis County EMS officials who sent updates on the collision via their Twitter account.

Some of the victims -- including children -- were pinned inside the wreckage and had to be extricated by emergency officials, EMS said.

Three teens were transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge; one female victim was hospitalized with serious injuries; two male victims were rushed to the hospital, also with serious injuires; and two children were taken to Dell Children's Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The stretch of roadway has been closed, and motorists are advised to expect delays or find alternate routes.

This is the second significant crash to occur on Cameron Road in as many days. On Sunday, a 4-year-old boy was killed in the 5900 block of Cameron Road when he was struck by a driver who fled the scene and has yet to be found.
