Man Dead After Reported Shooting In East Austin

EAST AUSTIN, TX -- A man has died after what is being reported as a shooting in East Austin on Saturday afternoon.

Austin-Travis County EMS officials said a man believed in his 20s or 30s was pronounced dead at the scene. Medics made the pronouncement upon arriving at Loyola Lane and Decker Lane, the site of an Exxon station.

EMS officials said the incident occurred at about 3 p.m. The Austin American-Statesman reports this is a shooting, which makes this the fourth fatal shooting in the area in just the past few weeks.

Officials are asking people to avoid the area of the latest incident to accommodate their investigation.

Pending confirmation by police, this would be the latest shooting in East Austin in recent days:

• On Aug. 11, at about 9:3o p.m., police responded to the 1800 block of Elmira Road after reports of a shooting. Once on scene, police found two victims of apparent gunshot wounds. One of them, 44-year-old Ashton Dominick Collins, died later in the hospital.
• On June 16, Gerald Leron Williams, 23, was found dead along the 5800 block of Sweeney Circle after a report of a shooting shortly after 3 a.m. Police continue to search for a suspect.
• On June 15, Maria Ferrer-Mena, a woman in her 30s, was identified as the victim of a fatal shooting incident. Police were called to the 5800 block of Wellington Drive where they found her outside her apartment, already dead.
