Water Main Break In East Austin Comes Two Days After Gas Line Rupture In Same Area

EAST AUSTIN, TX — A water main rupture shut down Comal Street on Wednesday in the same area where a gas line break prompted street closures and evacuations.
The 12-inch water main break on Wednesday occurred just after 9 a.m. on Comal Street between 4th and 6th streets. The area was closed for several hours while utility crews at Austin Water fixed the line. Water damage caused sidewalks to cave in, according to police.
On Monday, a construction crew inadvertently ruptured a four-inch gas line on the same street, prompting emergency crews to close off access between 4th and 7th streets. Residents in the area were evacuated while utility crews repaired the rupture.

It's unclear whether construction crews caused the water main break as occurred with the gas line two days earlier.
