Local soldiers, colleges, and units like the 1st Cavalry Division, 36th Engineer Brigade, and 1st Medical Brigade will test autonomous vehicles, unmanned breaching systems, and underground medical facilities, shaping how future wars are fought from right here in Central Texas.

2. 1st Cavalry Division soldiers will get the Army's newest tank and infantry combat vehicle first (taskandpurpose.com) — Soldiers with 1st Cavalry Division’s 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team at Fort Hood will be the first in the Army to train on the new XM30 infantry vehicle and M1E3 Abrams tank starting this fall. Their feedback from local training and a 2027 National Training Center rotation will help shape how these high-tech, AI-enabled vehicles are fielded across the force.

3. Copperas Cove ISD announces launch of virtual program option for grade 3-12 students in upcoming 2026-2027 school year (coveleaderpress.com) — Families in the greater Fort Hood area can soon apply to Central Texas Innovation Academy, a new virtual 3–12 campus run by Copperas Cove ISD that still allows local students to join on-campus activities. The highly rated district is opening limited statewide seats, offering career and technical programs, dual credit, and potential laptop support for students outside CCISD boundaries.

4. Hutto's crisis K9 Chase makes rounds across Central Texas in busy first month (cbsaustin.com) — Fort Hood dispatch staff recently received peer support visits from Chase, Williamson County’s first crisis K9, following the loss of a supervisor there. The new Hutto Police Department puppy is being trained to comfort people in crisis and support first responders after difficult calls, while also helping build trust between Central Texas law enforcement and the community.

5. Woman who struck, killed woman with her truck along Fort Hood St. is sentenced to 30 years (kdhnews.com) — A Killeen woman has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for intentionally running over and killing another woman along Fort Hood Street in December 2022. Prosecutors said the driver circled the victim with her truck before striking her and leaving the scene. Family members of the victim, a mother of three, addressed the court before sentencing.
