It is no secret that Texas summers come with extreme heat that is life-threatening to vulnerable residents, particularly those experiencing homelessness.
That's why the City of Fort Worth partners with local nonprofits every summer to provide greater access to cooling centers during the hottest part of the year.
The initiative started after community providers saw an increase in heat-related illnesses and deaths in the summer of 2022.
The program will continue this summer for the third year, with cooling stations and water distribution sites open from June 22 through Sep. 18.
Residents in need will find these spaces safe and air-conditioned, with hydration and basic services available on-site.
On days when temperatures reach 100 degrees or higher, Presbyterian Night Shelter offers early intake for overnight beds beginning at noon.
Residents are encouraged to share cooling and water resource information with neighbors and community members who may need help staying safe over the summer. In case of heat-related emergencies, call 911.
