1. DFW Airport updates include new TSA program and speed limits (communityimpact.com) — If you're heading to DFW Airport from Fort Worth, expect slower speeds on International Parkway after the City Council approved dropping the limit from 55 to 45 mph, with fines up to $500. The airport is also rolling out a TSA Gateside program for non-flyers, new parking and access rates starting Oct. 1, hotel construction progress, flight changes, and a renewed bus link from CentrePort Station.
2. A century of service: Historic Baker Funeral Home celebrates milestone anniversary (fortworthreport.org) — Baker Funeral Home on East Rosedale just marked 100 years of serving Fort Worth's Historic Southside, celebrating its legacy as the city's first Black-owned funeral home. Generations of the Baker family, neighbors, and three Fort Worth City Council members honored the business's deep roots, from its early ambulance service and church ties to today's fourth-generation leadership keeping the mission of community service alive.
3. Fort Worth police chief to defend flock cameras, combat against misuse (wfaa.com) — Fort Worth's police chief says the department's 235 Flock license plate cameras are crucial for solving crimes, citing thousands of arrests and hundreds of recovered stolen vehicles since 2020. As privacy advocates raise concerns, Chief Eddie Garcia promises strict guardrails and plans a detailed presentation to the city council next month, which could shape how extensively this surveillance technology is used in Fort Worth neighborhoods.
4. Refrigeration issues found at Fort Worth schools in latest Tarrant inspections (star-telegram.com) — Several Fort Worth ISD elementary schools were ordered to switch to prepackaged lunches after county health inspectors found unsafe refrigerator temperatures and possible falsified temperature logs. The inspections, covering early September, also cited pest and cold-storage issues at two nearby restaurants, but the most immediate impact falls on Fort Worth students and families relying on school meals.
5. 'Landman' begins season 3 filming in Fort Worth.
