Fort Worth Music Teacher Retires After 20 Years Without Missing a Day

After 20 years at Harmony Science Academy-Fort Worth, longtime music teacher Luiz Mullini Nascimento will retire May 27 with a rare record: school leaders say he never missed a day of work.

Ahead of his final day, Mullini Nascimento was recognized with an official signed State of Texas resolution from State Rep. Ramón Romero Jr. honoring his two decades of service to Harmony Public Schools and generations of North Texas students.

The resolution was presented May 15 during a campus retirement celebration attended by colleagues, students and community members. District Director Emerico Perez presented the resolution on Romero’s behalf.

School leaders said Mullini Nascimento’s perfect attendance record is just one part of a larger legacy built through music, mentorship and campus traditions.

“Mr. Mullini created experiences our students will remember for the rest of their lives,” said Stephanie Wynn, principal of Harmony Science Academy-Fort Worth. “His dedication, kindness and commitment to students helped define the culture of our campus.”

Mullini Nascimento joined Harmony Science Academy-Fort Worth as a part-time music teacher before becoming a full-time educator just two months later. During his tenure, he helped build the campus fine arts program, led the Elementary Guitar Club and helped establish traditions including Harmony Around the World and Fine Arts Night.

Originally from Vitória, Brazil, Mullini Nascimento became involved in music through church choirs and youth music programs before studying orchestral conducting and music education. He later moved to the United States to complete graduate studies in music, where he discovered a passion for teaching while helping build music programs and mentoring young musicians.

“I wanted to conduct an orchestra, but first I had to create one,” Mullini Nascimento wrote in a personal biography reflecting on his journey into education.

Over the course of his career, Mullini Nascimento taught thousands of North Texas students through classroom instruction, performances and campus fine arts events.

“Harmony helped me fulfill my passion for teaching music,” Mullini Nascimento said.

During the May 15 celebration, Perez read the signed resolution aloud as staff members applauded and students presented Mullini Nascimento with handwritten tribute books, student-created artwork and a custom rocking chair commemorating his retirement.

In the resolution, Romero recognized Mullini Nascimento for making “a profound and positive difference in the lives of countless young Texans.”

Mullini Nascimento will retire May 27 after 22 years in education, including 20 years with Harmony Public Schools.
