Fort Worth Teacher Leads Group in National “America’s Favorite Teacher” Competition

Mays Aljuboori, a fifth-grade science teacher at Harmony Science Academy–Fort Worth Middle, is currently in first place in her group as she advances in the national “America’s Favorite Teacher” competition.

The recognition highlights a Fort Worth educator gaining national attention for her work in the classroom.

The contest recognizes educators making an impact in their classrooms, with public voting determining who advances. Public voting remains open through Thursday. The recognition places her among teachers nationwide gaining support from their communities.

“This experience has been both humbling and incredibly meaningful,” Aljuboori said. “It reflects the relationships I’ve built with my students and the support of my school community.”

Now in her second year of teaching, Aljuboori focuses on building strong relationships and creating a classroom where students feel supported and challenged.

“Ms. Aljuboori is a tremendous asset to our campus,” said Principal Alan Burke. “Her passion is inspiring, and her thoughtfulness and follow-through ensure each student is prepared to learn and excel academically. In only her second year, she has already proven she is well-deserving of becoming ‘America’s Favorite Teacher.’”

A graduate of Harmony Public Schools, Aljuboori said returning to teach has made the recognition especially meaningful.

“It’s where I was given my first opportunity to teach and make a difference,” she said.

If she advances, Aljuboori said she hopes to bring a unique experience to her students, including the possibility of hosting Bill Nye the Science Guy on campus.

“This experience is a reminder that teaching is about connection, impact and believing in every student’s potential,” she said. “I share this recognition with my students because they are the reason I do what I do.”
