• NAACP Garland's 35th Annual Freedom Fund Brunch features O'Neal (texasmetronews.com) — Garland residents recently packed a ballroom for the NAACP Garland Unit's 35th Annual Freedom Fund Brunch, honoring local leaders, educators, and students with scholarships and awards. The event highlighted Garland ISD talent, celebrated the late former council member B.J. Williams, and showcased community efforts to preserve Garland's Black and Latino history and support youth achievement.
   

• One Lake, Three Cities: 10th Annual Tri-City Cleanup Set for Oct. 10 (blueribbonnews.com) — Garland residents are invited to join Dallas and Rowlett neighbors on Saturday, Oct. 10, for the 10th Annual Tri-City Cleanup of Lake Ray Hubbard and nearby areas, with specific Garland volunteer sites available online. Volunteers can help clear trash from shoreline and parks in the morning, then enjoy a free appreciation event and flag raising, plus a separate recycling and shredding day on Oct. 17.
