Garland library expands programming and job training (cw33.com) — Garland residents now have expanded access to job training, small-business support, and creative makerspaces across all four public library branches. New partnerships with Dallas College and Workforce Dallas bring vocational training and certifications, while upgraded facilities, storytimes, ESL classes, and a Small Business Incubator at the Central Library aim to make each branch a lively, inclusive community hub.
   

2. DART Announces Major Security Initiative At Five Light Rail Stations (dallasexpress.com) — Garland riders who depend on DART should expect a much stronger security presence systemwide as the agency launches a 90‑day Operation Access pilot at several Dallas rail stations. While the first phase targets other stops, DART will use the results to decide on fare gates, more officers on trains, and broader policy changes that would directly affect trips to and from Garland.
   

3. Gov. Abbott orders pause for all data centers until ERCOT audit is finished (fox4news.com) — A statewide order from Gov. Greg Abbott has paused all new data center permits until ERCOT finishes an in‑depth audit, a move that could affect future projects in Garland's growing data‑center corridor. Existing facilities like the NTT campus are highlighted as examples while regulators scrutinize power, water use, neighborhood impacts, and tax incentives before allowing more centers to move forward.
   

4. Bulldog Bowling Unveils 2026-27 Schedule (latechsports.com) — Louisiana Tech's women's bowling team will open its 2026–27 season at the SWIBC I & II tournament in Garland on October 3–4, bringing top collegiate competition to town. The Bulldogs' schedule includes several other Texas stops, but Garland gets the first look at a senior-led roster aiming for a deep postseason run.
