1. Seeing Double (glasstire.com) — Georgetown Art Center is inviting residents to a free opening reception for “Seeing Double – Two Views of Texas” on May 2, followed by an artist talk on May 3. Artists Denise Elliott Jones and Debbie Carroll will showcase contrasting interpretations of Texas’s seven regions, with live music, refreshments, and plenty of chances to chat with them about their work downtown.

2. Georgetown ISD names 5th middle school campus (kvue.com) — Georgetown ISD has officially named its fifth middle school S.C. Marshall Middle School, honoring a pioneering early 20th-century Georgetown principal who expanded high school-level instruction for Black students. Funded by the 2024 bond, the new campus is expected to be finished later this year and open for the 2027–28 school year, though its exact location hasn’t been announced yet.

3. 94-mph crash in Georgetown leads to 7-year prison sentence (statesman.com) — A driver who was speeding at 94 mph through a Georgetown construction zone when he struck and killed pedestrian Colter Davis-Nelson has been sentenced to seven years in prison. Prosecutors say the 2023 crash on the I-35 South frontage road involved extreme speeding and illegally dark window tint, and they hope the sentence warns others against reckless driving on local roads.

4. Hutto's crisis K9 Chase makes rounds across Central Texas in busy first month (cbsaustin.com) — Georgetown residents may soon see more of Chase, Williamson County’s first crisis K9, who has already visited Georgetown Police Department dispatch to support staff after the loss of a supervisor. The Hutto-based puppy is training to provide comfort during crises, help calm people in distress, and assist officers coping with stressful incidents as part of a broader Central Texas mental-health initiative.
