• Pecan Fest Beer Garden To Expand As Officials Plan For Festival (panews.com) — Groves officials have approved expanding the Pecan Festival Beer Garden to include the stage area, adding emergency exits and planning for more trash service and restrooms. The Groves Chamber hopes the extra beer revenue will pay for bigger-name bands, responding to residents’ calls for stronger entertainment. The festival is expected in October, though exact dates aren’t set yet.
   

• Ricky Dan Haley (kogt.com) — Family and friends in Groves are mourning the passing of 71-year-old Ricky Dan Haley, who died in Groves on May 8 and will be remembered at services Wednesday in Bridge City. A longtime pipefitter and devoted Cowboys and rock-and-roll fan, he was known for his love of people, “Ricky Wednesdays,” and the laughter he shared with his large, close-knit family.
