The Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas recognized Harlingen CISD on December 2 for the outstanding support the school district has provided the group throughout their partnership.

Representing the Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas Troop 304, sisters Sabina Puente, a sixth-grader at Gutierrez Middle School of Arts and Sciences and Angelica Puente, a first-grader at Lee Means Fine Arts Academy presented the Community Partnership Award.
Sabina Puente handed the award, a brown and green plaque with an inscription that read, “For your outstanding support,” to Superintendent Dr. Art Cavazos.

“We had meetings at schools and here [in the administration building], and this is a thank you,” Puente said.
A gift basket filled with Girl Scout cookies was also presented to Dr. Cavazos.
“We are grateful for our partnership,” Dr. Cavazos said to the Girl Scouts. “We want to tell you that it’s important for us for your program to continue to be a part of our school district. So, we welcome the opportunity for you all to have your meetings here with us. We also have Boy Scouts here and The Boys and Girls Club because we believe the schools belong to the community, and you all are part of the community.”
The plaque now sits among other awards near the entrance to the administration building.
“We appreciate and thank the district for everything that they have done for the Girl Scouts such as opening up the buildings for meetings, events, and training,” Girl Scout Troop Leader and parent April Puente said.
