📰 News we're reading

1. Top 10 US destinations for snowbirds to flock to escape the winter cold (foxweather.com) — Harlingen earns a spot on a new top-10 list of U.S. snowbird destinations, praised for its mild winters, outdoor recreation, and easy access to South Padre Island and the Rio Grande Valley. The ranking, based on national environmental and demographic data, puts Harlingen alongside Florida and other Texas cities as an appealing warm-weather winter base.

2. Republican redistricting in Texas and Florida may not turn out as Trump had hoped (texarkanagazette.com) — From a Harlingen dateline, this piece explains how redistricting in Texas, including the Rio Grande Valley seat sought by Eric Flores, hasn't guaranteed Republicans the easy gains they expected. Local voters' concerns about costs, immigration and Trump's agenda are reshaping once-safe calculations in both Texas and Florida as midterm House races tighten.

3. Mobile selected to join Love Your Block program (fox10tv.com) — Harlingen has been named one of just 25 U.S. cities in the Love Your Block program, which funds small, resident-led neighborhood improvement projects. While this release focuses on Mobile, Alabama, Harlingen's inclusion means local groups could soon tap grants and expert support to clean up vacant lots, reclaim public spaces, and strengthen ties with city government.

4. EXCLUSIVE: Eric Flores using JD Vance's South Texas visit in ad, sees Trump agenda as helpful for flipping seat (washingtonreporter.news) — Harlingen residents recently hosted Vice President JD Vance, whose visit is now featured in a new campaign ad for Republican House candidate Eric Flores. Flores argues that Trump's and Vance's agenda, including tax changes on tips and Social Security, will resonate with South Texas voters as he challenges Democratic Rep. Vicente Gonzalez in a sharply contested race.
