• East Texas drought threatens hay production, raises costs for ranchers (cbs19.tv) — Henderson ranchers and hay producers are facing sharply reduced hay yields and potentially doubled hay prices after a summer-long drought, forcing many to feed hay months earlier than normal. Local producer David Powell says some ponds are down as much as 80%, and ranchers may have to buy hay from outside East Texas or even sell cattle to manage winter costs.
