📰 News we're reading
• East Texas drought threatens hay production, raises costs for ranchers (cbs19.tv) — Henderson ranchers and hay producers are facing sharply reduced hay yields and potentially doubled hay prices after a summer-long drought, forcing many to feed hay months earlier than normal. Local producer David Powell says some ponds are down as much as 80%, and ranchers may have to buy hay from outside East Texas or even sell cattle to manage winter costs.
• Carthage, Malakoff top #bEASTTexas Fabulous 15 polls (news-journal.com) — Henderson football fans can watch their team visit Chapel Hill this week in one of the poll's highlighted matchups, while the Lions also picked up a vote in the latest big-school rankings. Carthage and Malakoff lead their respective #bEASTTexas Fabulous 15 polls, with several East Texas programs climbing or entering the lists after Week 5 results.
