10 From Houston Area Among Those Charged In Jan. 6 Capitol Riots
A former Houston police officer and an alt-right social media personality are among those Houstonians accused in the Capitol insurrection.

HOUSTON, TX — A former police officer and an alt-right social media personality among them, 10 people from the Houston area were arrested and charged in connection with the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.
Many were identified though social media videos and livestreams or from television footage, and in one case, authorities recovered photos from the recently deleted folder on the accused's smartphone.
The day should have been routine as Congress met in the U.S. Capitol to certify the presidential victory of Joe Biden in the electoral college. But the insurrection by loyalists to Donald Trump who wanted to stop the certification of Biden's election to the presidency became an infamous day in American history.

Thousands were involved in the riots that disrupted the Joint Session of Congress that was in the process of affirming the results of the country's votes. So far, 705 people have been arrested in the attack.
Four people died in the attack — a rioter shot by a Capitol police officer as she tried to break through a door to the House chamber, two from natural causes, and a fourth from amphetamine intoxication, according to the Washington, D.C., medical examiner.

The crowd included Houston-area residents who have since been charged by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia. Patch compiled a list of those accused with crimes and their charges.
Wilmar Jeovanny Montano Alvarado, Houston: Alvarado is charged with civil disorder; obstruction of an official proceeding; assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers; entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly conduct in a Capitol building; and impeding passage through the Capitol grounds or buildings.
Christian Cortez, Seabrook: Cortez is accused of obstruction of an official proceeding; entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly conduct in a Capitol building; and parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building.
Anthime Joseph Gionet aka "Baked Alaska", Houston: The alt-right social media personality is charged with knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
Shane Jenkins, Houston: Jenkins is accused of civil disorder; assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers using a dangerous weapon; theft of government property; destruction of government property; entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon; engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon; disorderly conduct in the capitol grounds or building; and an act of physical violence in the Capitol grounds or buildings
Benjamin LaRocca, Seabrook: LaRocca is charged with obstruction of an official proceeding; entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly conduct in a Capitol building; and parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building.
Joshua R. Lollar, Spring: Lollar is accused of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers; civil disorder; obstruction of an official proceeding and aiding and abetting; entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly conduct in a Capitol building; parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building.
Tam Dinh Pham, Houston: A Houston police officer who was fired after his involvement was made known, Pham pled guilty to parading, demonstrating and picketing in a Capitol building in September.
Andrew Taake, Houston: Taake is facing charges of obstruction of an official proceeding; assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers; obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder; entering or remaining, disorderly and disruptive conduct, and engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, impeding passage through and act of physical violence on Capitol grounds or buildings; and parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building.
Adam Mark Weibling, Katy: Weibling is accused of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
Darrell Alan Youngers, Houston: Youngers is charged with knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly conduct in a capitol building; and parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building.
