1. Houston rent is $400 cheaper than New York. So why is it harder to afford? (lmtonline.com) — Houston renters are paying a relatively low median rent of about $1,400, yet more than half are now considered cost-burdened because local incomes lag behind other big cities. A new Rice University Kinder Institute study shows renter incomes falling, rents inching up, and tens of thousands more Houstonians renting instead of owning, squeezing both low-income and middle-class residents.
   

2. Houston Lotto Texas ticket: Winning numbers (fox26houston.com) — A winning Lotto Texas ticket worth $7.5 million was sold at a Kroger on Memorial Drive in west Houston, and the winner has 180 days to claim it. Other Houston-area players with at least three winning numbers can still collect smaller prizes, some over $11,000, if they act before the March 4, 2027 deadline.
   

3. New PAX Unplugged Houston Tabletop Event Revealed, Debuting June 2027 (gamespress.com) — Tabletop gamers in Houston can look forward to PAX Unplugged Houston, coming to the George R. Brown Convention Center June 25–27, 2027. The event will feature a large expo floor, panels, tournaments, and community meetups, with badges and media applications opening later this year.
   

4. Hidalgo wants Harris County to re-evaluate Flock cameras, strengthen oversight (houstonchronicle.com) — Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo is pushing for a public special meeting to reconsider the county's contract with Flock license-plate cameras and tighten rules on data access and privacy. With thousands of cameras already deployed around the Houston region and investigations into alleged misuse underway, she wants clearer oversight, transparency, and input from residents and law enforcement before the program continues.
   

5. Stray bullet pierces roof of Houston-area fire station, barely missing firefighter (fox26houston.com) — A stray bullet pierced the roof of a Houston-area fire station, landing just two feet from a firefighter preparing for bed but causing no injuries. Westfield Fire Department leaders say celebratory gunfire is a recurring local problem and urge residents to call 911 if they hear shots, stressing that firing into the air is illegal and potentially deadly.
