2017 Best School Districts In Houston

HOUSTON, TX — A recent survey by Niche.com has ranked the 40 best school districts in the Greater Houston area for 2017.

The rankings were based on a number of criteria including test scores, college data, and rigorous academic life as compiled by the U.S Department of Education.

Based on that data, Friendswood ISD was ranked the top school district in the Houston area, followed by Katy ISD, Pearland ISD, Tomball ISD and Clear Creek ISD, which rounded out the top five.

While the districts were rated on an even playing field, each of them are different demographically as well as size.

Friendswood, for instance is smaller with just seven schools and nearly 6,200 students, compared to Katy ISD, which has 71,000 students at 67 campuses district wide.

The top 10 list includes:

• Friendswood ISD
• Katy ISD
• Pearland ISD
• Tomball ISD
• Clear Creek ISD
• Barber’s Hill ISD
• Humble ISD
• Deer Park ISD
• Cy-Fair ISD
• Conroe ISD

All of the school districts in the top 10 scored an A+ or A on the Niche.com rating scale.

While the school districts listed in the top 10 were hardly surprising, the rankings for Houston ISD, which came in near the bottom at No. 30, and Spring ISD, which has been working to make substantial improvements in their school district culture, came in at No. 32.

The lowest rated school district according to Niche.com was La Marque ISD, at No. 40
