Thomas had seen the car coming from her peripheral vision, but wasn't able to react in time before the collision, she said.

After the crash, Thomas said she was checking on her daughter when the woman who driving the Grand Prix got out, pointed a gun at them and started shooting.

The woman then got into the dark colored sedan, and drove away.

Thomas said she didn't realize her daughter had been shot until she went to take her from the back seat and saw the blood.

Adkins was taken to an area hospital, where she later died.

There are no suspects in custody and no motive known for the shooting.
