📰 News we're reading

1. Coastal Texas and Louisiana warned of tropical storm, while another storm moves toward Hawaii (wowktv.com) — Houston is under a tropical storm warning as Tropical Storm Edouard targets the upper Texas coast, with 3 to 6 inches of rain expected and up to 9 inches in some spots, raising serious flash-flooding concerns. State officials say Texas is prepared, but residents in low-lying and urban parts of the metro should be ready for rapidly rising water and possible disruptions today.

2. Tropical Storm Edouard Officially Forms In Gulf Of America (iheart.com) — Tropical Storm Edouard is set to bring 3 to 5 inches of rain across Houston, with even higher totals east of I-45 and a flood watch already in effect for Harris County. A tropical storm warning covers nearby coastal areas, and numerous school districts have canceled Tuesday classes as the region braces for heavy rain, gusty winds, and localized flooding.

3. Dr. Matthews celebrates after defeating two protective orders in Harris County (houstonstringer.com) — A Houston-based doctor is highlighting her recent success in Harris County District Court, where two requested protective orders against her were denied. She and her attorney argue that protective orders are being misused for social media disputes, criticize a local judge's handling of such cases, and note additional upcoming hearings involving allegations against her.

4. Best high schools in Texas (kvia.com) — Several Houston campuses, including St. John's School, The Village School, The Awty International School, and others, rank among the very best high schools in Texas in new Niche-based ratings. The list mixes public and private options across the state, giving Houston families a snapshot of how local schools stack up on academics, diversity, and student experience.
