1. Whitmire, Hollins split on $50M Woodlands deal before Houston council vote Wednesday (star-telegram.com) — Houston leaders are weighing a $50 million proposal from The Woodlands that would immediately help plug a $25 million city budget shortfall but end future sales-tax contributions tied to annexation limits. Mayor John Whitmire calls the deal a win-win, while Controller Chris Hollins warns it trades long-term revenue for short-term cash before Wednesday's council vote.
   

2. He was just trespassing, until he wasn't. (pasadenian.com) — Deputies recently responded to a suspicious person call on Rockhill Street in Houston and discovered a 62-year-old man allegedly trespassing and soliciting. A mobile fingerprint check showed he was wanted on a Harris County felony warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and he was arrested and booked into the Joint Processing Center.
   

3. Truck tips over and loses load on overpass over North Loop 610; vehicle below impaled by pole (click2houston.com) — North Loop 610 at the Eastex Freeway in Houston is shut down in both directions after a gravel truck tipped on an overpass and spilled its load, including a pole that pierced a truck below. No injuries were reported, but drivers are urged to avoid the area while crews clear debris and reopen the highway.
   

4. Houston's Nepalese community collecting flood relief funds (spectrumlocalnews.com) — Houston's Nepalese Association is urgently collecting financial donations to support relief efforts after deadly flooding in Nepal and Tibet, drawing on a local community of about 9,000 people. Leaders in Southwest Houston recall raising $200,000 after the 2015 earthquake and say cash, not supplies, will best help survivors now, urging Houstonians to give and spread the word.
   

5. Film: Houston weekly screens and scenes: Sept. 2 (ricethresher.org) — Film lovers in Houston can catch a packed slate of classics this week, from "Steel Magnolias" at Rooftop Cinema Club Uptown Houston on Thursday to "Some Like It Hot" at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston all weekend. River Oaks Theatre is also screening cult favorites "Fantastic Planet" and "TAMALA 2010," offering plenty of big-screen options close to home.
