Baby Lemurs Born At Houston Zoo
These Madgascar lemurs have kept zookeepers busy this past month.
HOUSTON, TX -- The Houston Zoo has welcomed two baby lemurs over the past month. The first was born Dec. 23; a male Coquerel’s sifaka baby born to mom, Zenobia, the zoo said in a news release. The second baby was born last week; a tiny baby ring-tailed lemur to mom, Cairrean.
The December baby was named Dionysius by primate keepers and is becoming more confident on venturing away from his mother’s back, the zoo added.
Lemurs remain under a threat of extinction, BBC reported in August 2018. There are 111 known species and subspecies of lemur, all endemic to Madagascar. Of this group, 105 were under threat, BBC added.
