What’s happening where you are this weekend? Back-to-school events are kicking off this weekend in several communities in the Greater Houston area with health fairs, and back-to-school shopping. It’s also the first weekend of restaurant week benefiting the area good banks in surrounding communities.
It’s a great weekend to get out and enjoy the waning days of summer 2018. Here is a list of the top 10 events happening Friday through Sunday.
The 46th Annual Tomball Night| Friday Aug. 3, 5-10 p.m.| Downtown Tomball| Free: What began in the early 1970s as a back-to-school fashion show and way for residents to find great deals at area businesses expanded into one of the biggest nights of the summer for Tomball. The 46th Annual Tomball Night features the Parade of Lights, live entertainment, kids activities, shopping and an amazing fireworks display at 9:45 p.m.

Houston Restaurant Week| Aug. 1 - Sept. 3| Participating Houston Area Restaurants| The event benefits area food banks and showcases the talents and menus of area restaurants.
The Heights Funk Collective| Friday, Aug. 3, 6-9 p.m.| The Brown Foundation Plaza in Houston| It’s time to get your boogie shoes on for the cool funky fusion sounds of this iconic Houston band. The event is part of the Houston Museum of Fine Arts music series and is free.

5K Beer Run at Southern Star Brewery| Saturday, Aug. 4 at 8 a.m.| $35 Entry fee| There’s still time to sign up for this cool 5K run benefiting the Montgomery County Toys For Tots.
Back-to-school Splash Bash| Saturday, Aug. 4, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.| Sugar Land Town Square: This free family fun event will let you beat the heat with water slides, wading pools, or shake things up with the hula-hoop contest. There will be a DJ spinning awesome tunes, and an area for those younger than school age too. The free event benefits the Fort Bend Rainbow Room, and those who plan to come out are encouraged to donate a backpack with school supplies to the Fort Bend Rainbow Room.
Caitlin G McCollom| Saturday, Aug. 4 at 1 p.m.| McCollom closes out her solo exhibition Light In The Window with an artist talk at BLUEorange. The exhibition features more than 20 original acrylic paintings on Yupo that explore the moment when light floods through a window.
First Saturday Arts Market in The Heights| Saturday, Aug. 4, 6-10 p.m.| Check out the work of local artisans while enjoying some cool tunes and light bites. No cover.
Chimney Rock Market in West Houston| Sunday, Aug. 5, noon-4 p.m.| This recurring event draws the local community, vendors and dogs too. Come on out. It’s free.
311 and Offspring in Concert at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion| The Woodlands| Sunday, Aug. 5 at 7 p.m.| Get your jam going with these cool 90s era bands. Tickets start at $27.50.
Sunday Movie Night At Galveston’s Pleasure Pier| Sunday, Aug. 5 at 8 p.m.| The big screen lights up at this free event with Surf’s Up, a cool animated family movie. It’s a great way to wind down your weekend.
