Exxon Mobil Moving 1,600 XTO Energy Employees To Houston’s Springwoods Campus

The move will begin in 2018, with 1,200 employees moving, following by another 400 employees in 2020.

HOUSTON, TX — Fort Worth-based Exxon Mobil has announced plans to shift 1,600 jobs from their offices in Fort Worth to the Houston campus in a phased move within the next two years.

XTO Energy, a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil, will move 1,200 employees to Exxon Mobiles 385 acre Springwoods Village campus on Interstate 45 in Spring in 2018, and 400 more in 2020. The move, which was announced on June 16, according to the Dallas Morning News, is designed to allow better collaboration between XTO Energy and its parent company.

“Fort Worth is a business and community-oriented city, and we appreciate the partnership we have had. The move is not a reflection of our feelings about doing business in Fort Worth,” Sara Ortwein, XTO Energy’s president, said in statement. “XTO is an important part of Exxon Mobil and this move will enable collaboration and provide more opportunities to share expertise across the entire corporation.”

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that XTO Energy plans to sell six of the seven buildings the company owns in Fort Worth in what officials referred to as a phased marketing approach.

XTO Energy has been a fixture in Fort Worth since it was launched in 1986 as Cross Timbers Oil, and is credited with the revitalization of Fort Worth’ downtown district, the Star-Telegram reported.

In 2010, Exxon Mobil bought XTO Energy and vowed to keep the company in Fort Worth, but it seems most were speculating even then that XTO would eventually move south to Houston.

The massive Exxon Mobil campus is far from full, with about 4,000 employees working at the Spring campus.
