Harris County DA Files Charges Against Sheriff’s Deputy Accused of Possessing Child Pornography

Deputy was also alleged to be producing obscene images involving bestiality, officials said.

HOUSTON, TX — A former Harris County Sheriff’s deputy who was fired Tuesday for distributing obscene material through his online account at work is facing multiple felony charges that included possession of child pornography and producing pornography depicting bestiality.

Andrew C. Sustaita Jr., a six-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, was assigned to the crime control division when he was arrested on Jan. 9.

His arrest came as a result of an investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office High Tech Crime Unit, which determined Sustaita was allegedly involved in producing obscene online material.

Dane Schiller, a spokesman for the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, told KPRC that some of the materials Sustaita allegedly produced included obscene material depicting sexual contact with a dog.

At the time of his arrest, Sustaita's personal computer was confiscated and investigators discovered more than 200 images and videos that are regarded as child pornography, according to court documents.

As a result of the discovery, the DA’s office filed more charges against Sustaita on Friday.

“The possession of obscene and illicit material is made even more troubling when a Sheriff’s Office employee is found to be involved,” said Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. “Every resource of this office will be dedicated to protecting the public and holding our employees accountable for wrongdoing.”

Sustaita is free on a $30,000 bond.

If he is convicted, he could spend up to 10 years in prison.
