Houston School Election Results 2021: Runoff For 4 HISD Races
Voters in Houston cast ballots Tuesday for Houston ISD, Aldine ISD, Alief ISD and Houston Community College. Here are the winners.

HOUSTON, TX — Four Houston ISD Board of Trustee races are heading to a runoff, and Alief ISD voters approved three of four bond propositions in Tuesday's school district elections.
With 100 percent of Harris County precincts reporting, Houston ISD Position 9 Trustee Myrna Guidry won re-election, but four incumbents are headed to runoffs after stiff competition from challengers.
In the Position 7 race, Bridget Wade received more votes than incumbent Anne Sung but didn't reach the required majority. Other runoffs include incumbent Elizabeth Santos against Janette Garza Lindner for Position 1, incumbent Sue Deigaard against Caroline Walter for Position 5 and incumbent Holly Flynn Vilaseca against Kendall Baker for Position 6.

Alief ISD voters approved three of four bond propositions totaling over $500 million. Proposals for school buildings, athletics facilities and technology improvements were passed.
In the Alief school board races, Board Vice President Darlene Breaux and Trustee Jennifer Key won re-election, and Gregg Patrick won the Position 7 seat. Donald Guillory and Harvey Anh Tong will head to a runoff for Position 5.
In Aldine ISD, three incumbents won re-election. Connie Esparza received a majority vote over Zaheer Malik in the Position 4 race. Two other incumbents won with a plurality as there are no runoffs in Aldine ISD. Rose Avalos edged Nico Mathews for Position 3, while Steve Mead defeated challenger Manny Guerrero for Position 5.
Results were delayed until late Tuesday because of an outage at the Harris County Elections' counting center.
"The machines are sensitive to any interference, so to ensure the integrity of the computers we conducted a full logic and accuracy test, which takes about two hours," the Harris County Elections administration said in a Facebook post. "Though we want to get the results out quickly, we prioritize processing everything accurately even if it takes some extra time."
Voters also cast their ballots for or against eight Texas Constitutional Amendment propositions. Here are the statewide results. For more races in the Houston metro, click here.
