Houston Metro Election Results 2021: First Results In
City government and school district races are taking place across the Houston area Tuesday. Check back here when polls close for results.

HOUSTON, TX — Voters across the Greater Houston area and throughout Harris, Montgomery and Fort Bend Counties are casting ballots Tuesday to decide a wide range of school district and city government races.
In Houston, school board elections dominate as Houston ISD, Aldine ISD and Alief ISD all have races for Board of Trustees seats, as does the Houston Community College System.
Houston ISD has five contested races for school board positions after a tumultuous period that included a controversial decision in 2018 to replace interim Superintendent Grenita Lathan with a former superintendent. The move was soon reversed, and it wasn't until June 2021 that the board hired a permanent superintendent, Millard House II.

Several incumbents on the board face eager challengers, including Position 7 Trustee Anne Sung, who is in a four-person race against Lee "Mac" Walker, Bridget Wade and Dwight Jefferson.

In District 1, incumbent Elizabeth Santos is up against Matias Kopinsky and Janette Garza Lindner. District 5 Trustee Sue Deigaard defends her seat against Maria Benzon and Caroline Walter, and in District 6, Holly Flynn Vilaseca is running against Kendall Baker and Greg Degeyter. District 9 Trustee Myrna Guidry is challenged by Gerry Monroez and Joshua Ryan Rosales.
There also are two contested Houston Community College Trustees races in District 3, between incumbent Adriana Tamez and challenger Brandon Cofield, and District 8, between incumbent Eva Loredo and challengers Victor Gonzales and Jharrett Bryantt.
Aldine ISD and Alief ISD also have several school board races to decide, and Alief ISD also has bond propositions.
Possibly the biggest issue on any ballot in the Houston area this year is The Woodlands' incorporation proposition. Proposition A calls for the creation of The City of The Woodlands with a tax rate of $0.2231 per $100. Proposition B, if Prop A passes, calls for the passing of authority from The Woodlands Township Board of Directors to a new city government.
Klein ISD and Tomball ISD also are holding elections with Klein ISD determining trustees in four available seats. Tomball ISD elections feature eight bond propositions.
In Montgomery County, several towns have city elections, including Patton Village, Splendora and Woodbranch Village. The mayor races in each of those towns are uncontested, though several seats are contested on their City Councils.
In Missouri City, voters are determining two contested City Council races as well as three bond propositions.
