HOUSTON, TX -- The Houston Police Department released surveillance video on Thursday from the armed robbery of a Subway restaurant they believe is connected to the shooting death of an 18-year old man, during an armed robbery attempt 45 minutes earlier.

The two were closing the restaurant for the night, when two young men with guns came in and demanded money.

One of the men pointed his gun at Javier’s mother, and Javier shoved her out of the way and was shot in the neck.

He was taken to Ben Taub Hospital where he later died.

The two robbers, described as young black men between the ages of 16-20-years old, ran from the store without taking any cash and drove off in a tan or gold colored 4-door sedan.

They are seen 45 minutes later on video surveillance from the robbery of another Subway store in the 4800 block of San Jacinto Blvd.

Although the faces of the two are not visible, police are hoping the lettering on the dark hoodies the two men were wearing -- which reads “We’re A Big Deal,” and “California Republic” -- might lead to an arrest.

On Thursday, police released video surveillance from the robbery, and a sketch of the man who allegedly killed Javier Flores, and Crime Stoppers has offered a $30,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of those responsible.

As police gather evidence in the case, a community mourns for the Flores family, and friends remember the Chavez High School junior who looked forward to graduation and hoped to one day become a U.S. Marine.

On Thursday night, family and friends gathered at the Subway restaurant for a vigil, and to pay their respects to the family.

A GoFundMe account has been established to help the family pay for Flores funeral expenses.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Houston Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
