Houston Symphony Wins First Grammy Award

The Houston Symphony won its first ever Grammy Award on Sunday for a critically lauded recording of Alban Berg's "Wozzeck."

HOUSTON, TX — The Houston Symnphony celebrated two firsts on Sunday night at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.

One of those firsts was being nominated for a Grammy Award, and the second was actually winning.

The Houston Symphony won for its live recording of Alban Berg's "Wozzeck" in the Best Opera Recording category.

Conductors Han Graf and Brad Sayles, who were featured in the album, accepted the award at New Yourk'sMadison Square Garden.

Also featured in the recording were Anne Schwanewilms and Roman Trekel who were the primary soloists for "Wozzeck"; the Houston Symphony; and Chorus Of Students And Alumni, Shepherd School Of Music, Rice University and Houston Grand Opera Children's Chorus, KPRC reported.

The recording was released last year and was part of Graf's farewell tour in 2013.
