Even as many of those families returned to their homes, Mack hosted relief drives at his three store locations collecting food, bottled water, and cleaning supplies for those who were, and still are, recovering.

In the weeks that followed, Mattress Mack also donated furniture to several families, and during the Houston Astros World Series run, promised customers who'd bought furniture at his store, that their purchases would be free if the Astros won the World Series.

That promise cost Mattress Mack $10 million.

In recent weeks there has been a push in the community to name s street for the Houston icon, and on Saturday, Mack served as the grand marshal for an impromptu Veterans Day Parade in southwest Houston.

Hundreds are expected to attend the Mattress Mack Feast on Thanksgiving Day.
