Hurricane Harvey: Houston-Area Mandatory Evacuations Ordered Monday
Several areas are now under mandatory evacuation as Hurricane Harvey's remnants dump unprecedented rain.

HOUSTON, TX — Emergency officials in the Houston area are recommending or ordering evacuations in some areas as the remnants of Hurricane Harvey dump misery on the city of 2.5 million. Now Tropical Storm Harvey, the storm is bringing unprecedented amounts of rain to the Texas Gulf Coast.

Conroe: McDade Estates is under mandatory evacuation after officials made the decision to release water from a swollen dam. Evacuation is recommended for residents in River Plantation, Woodhaven Forest, Artesian, Riverbrook Drive and Sherbrook Circle, neighborhoods off FM 2854, and the neighborhoods downstream from McDade Estates.

Missouri City: Fort Bend County officials said Missouri City residents under mandatory evacuations should leave at daylight.
Bay City: A mandatory evacuation begins at 1 p.m. Monday for the entire city and surrounding area. About 10 feet of water is expected in downtown Bay City.
Sugar Land: Residents living in the First Colony Levee Improvement District No. 1 and Fort Bend County Levee Improvement District No. 7 are under mandatory evacuation.
Rosenberg: Homes on Huntington Road are under mandatory evacuation after concern about the stability of a bridge into the area as rivers rise.
Simonton: Evacuation orders went into effect Sunday for Simonton, Texas, for Sections 1, 2 and 3 of Valley Lodge Subdivision due to the rising Brazos River.
Fort Bend County: A voluntary evacuation order was upgraded to mandatory Sunday for residents in lowlands surrounding the Brazos River. Residents without transportation were told to call 211 for assistance.
Brazoria County: Residents living west of State Highway 228 and south of State Highway 6 are under a mandatory evacuation. The only evacuation route is State Highway 35 westbound to Matagorda County to northbound State Highway 71 to Interstate 10. State Highway 35 is closed indefinitely. A pet-friendly shelter is at the Expo Center, 301 West Loop in Belton, Texas.
Aransas Pass: Mandatory evacuation.
Calhoun County: Mandatory evacuation.
Freeport: All low-lying coastal areas, including Bridge Harbor, are under evacuation order, and residents of other areas are encouraged to evacuate.
Matagorda County: Mandatory evacuation south of FM251, including the communities of Palacios, Collegeport, Matagorda, Sargent and Wadsworth.
Rosenberg: Evacuation orders are in effect in several areas:
- West Street and Mulcahy Street, north of Avenue D;
- River Road area, all properties north of River Road, adjacent to the river;
- North of Brazos: all properties north of the Brazos River, within the city limits;
- North Rosenberg, all properties east of 4th Street, north of Avenue B; all properties on First Street north of Avenue D
Voluntary evacuations are in effect in these areas:
Galveston County: Voluntary evacuation for residents in all unincorporated low-lying areas of the county, including San Leon, Bacliff, Old Bayou Vista, Highland Bayou, the Bolivar Peninsula (including the unincorporated areas of Port Bolivar, Crystal Beach, High Island and Gilchrist). Residents who rely on medical assistance or who cannot go without power for an extended period of time are encouraged to leave.
Brazoria County: Voluntary evacuation order issued for low-lying coastal areas inland of Intracoastal Waterway, residents living along the San Bernard River.
Chambers County: A voluntary evacuation order has been issued for Smith Point, Cedar Point, all RV parks, those living in unanchored mobile homes and other low-lying areas known to flood.
Dickinson: City officials have issued a voluntary evacuation order for citizens with medical conditions and special needs as well as those in low-lying areas.
Freeport: In addition to a mandatory evacuation for low-lying areas, city officials are urging all residents to self-evacuate.
Galveston's West End: Voluntary evacuation urged for those with medical or access and functional needs on the West End of Galveston. Anyone who needs assistance leaving the island should call (409) 797-3701 or sign up online on the website: www.galvestontx.gov/needaride.
Kemah: Residents who rely on medical assistance or those who cannot go without power for an extended period of time are encouraged to leave.
La Porte: At 9:30a.m. Friday, the city issued a voluntary evacuation order for the entire city prior to the arrival of Hurricane Harvey.
Seabrook: Voluntary evacuation issued with the elderly and those with medical conditions in mind. Residents were encouraged to leave by noon on Friday, Aug. 25.
Sugar Land: All other Sugar Land and ETJ residents within levee districts outside those covered by the mandatory evacuation are under a voluntary evacuation at this time.
