JJ Watt To Split Hurricane Harvey Donations With 4 Non-Profits
The non-profit organizations will split just over $30 million to help Houston families rebuild

HOUSTON, TX — Houston Texans star J.J. Watt said Thursday that he plans to split much of the $37 million raised to help victims of Hurricane Harvey among four non-profit organizations who are helping Houston area families recover.
Those four organizations are the St. Bernard Project, or SBP, which helps rebuild homes; Americares, which helps with the medical and mental health needs of those impacted by disasters; Feeding America, which is distributing food to those in need, and Save the Children, which helps restore child care centers and afterschool program
Watt chose the four organizations because they already had boots on the ground and already making an impact on Houstonians, KHOU reported.

Watt embarked on a campaign during Hurricane Harvey to raise $200,000 to help those severely impacted, or those who lost homes.
Within hours of the announcement, Watt’s $200,000 goal was eclipsed when the total hit $5 million, and exceeded again when 24 hours later the total had nearly doubled and stood at $8 million.

Weeks later, the donations capped at $37million.
Watt announced after the start of the football season that plans were in the works to distribute the funds, however after Watt broke his leg in a game against the Kansas City Chiefs, which slowed the distribution process.
The remaining funds $7 million will be distributed as the recovery efforts continue.
